Dusk to Dust

ashes
commingle all about
clinging to ecru’d memories
distant ossuary pyres
devastated dreams
left scattered in smoke

but I
I am no phoenix
merely invoking
wildflowers
to flourish
amongst the ruins

Trilogy

The
Marrowed
Truth
Cuts
To
The
Bone

Sand sand sand
Hourglass – shoreline
I lay upon the bones
Shifting – drifting
Lost in the sand

A rose resurrected
In the sand by the shore
On a sea of doubt
Jesus walked on the water
But I merely drowned

Terrence Sykes was born and raised in the rural coal mining mountains of southwestern Virginia and this isolation brings forth the theme of remembrance to his creations, whether real or imagined.
